8 Must-Do Experiences in Singapore on Long Weekend

Are you planning for your long weekend getaway in 2019?  In Malaysia, we used to have the public holidays for 3 or 4 days, especially when it falls on a Friday or Monday! Want to look for the best vacation place near your country? You can take your time to plan your future travels now!

My Deaf friends and I always do our planning so we could enjoy traveling on our tight budget, just for 2 or 3 days only. Are we worrying about the barrier to communication? No, we can use a simple sign or write through a pen and paper, or we can communicate with the people via smartphone. Luckily, we have GPS, Google Maps, or any travel apps and translation language apps because we are depending on this technology in our daily. And we can make the AirAsia online booking because AirAsia gives the cheap, reasonable, and affordable prices for us to book the flights to our destination.

Since we have a long weekend holiday, it’s better to visit the neighboring countries, such as Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar, and Indonesia! We are familiar with Southeast Asia's culture and food, so it is easier for us to visit there! Let me share my experience with what we do in Singapore.

What do we do In Singapore?

My friends and I can see a beautiful night view of the city - Singapore!

According to my experiences with my family and friends, we can take our flight for around 2 hours or ride a bus, it takes 4 hours to reach Singapore if you ask how about the transportation from Malaysia. I suggest that you better take a flight because you could save time as you have just the weekend only. For us, getting to Singapore is incredibly easy and surprisingly cheap by AirAsia flight!

1. Experience Explore Changi Airport

I heard that Changi Airport is one of the world's best airports and become the largest transportation hub in Southeast Asia. I am happy to have this chance to visit there. I experienced a short delay of flight so I went to explore around the Changi Airport! I am sure that you will enjoy your good time walking around this airport to experience new things.

Many children like to play the Social Tree (T1). It can take a photo of your face then; you can enjoy seeing the interactive game with your character!

There are 3 terminals in Changi Airport. You make sure that you are not lost in this big airport. I felt a bit confused but we did check with the Information counter to get more info. You should go to Butterfly Garden (T3). There is a very beautiful garden with some butterflies and a waterfall! Or can explore the Enchanted Garden (T2), then you enjoy to see sighting the beautiful plants, and the koi pond there.

If you are hungry, you can go to the food court. Wow, we experienced how to order and pay at the kiosk machine for the first time! It is easier for us to get food by following the order number when we did on the self-service machine. So no need to wait in long queues at the stalls.

Soon, they will have Jewel Changi as I heard that they want to make more indoor gardens as it will become a famously green airport! I really look forward to this new place when I visit Singapore next time.

2. Get to Ride in MRT Singapore

I learned how to use easy Singapore's MRT train when I used their kiosk machine. I am happy that we can take MRT from inside the airport! MRT can bring you to go to travel anywhere in Singapore easily. It is friendly for Deaf travelers too. To prepare for your trip, I encourage you to download the MRT app on Google Play. I don't plan to buy the tourist passcard because we decided to walk around the town and use the MRT train 2-3 times only. If you are lazy to walk so far, you can plan to use the tourist pass card for 2 days, or you need to get unlimited travel which can access the public bus and train services. We don't have to worry about how to go back to the airport because MRT always is there!

3. MUST SEE Marina Bay Sands and Merlion Park

You MUST go to see the famous iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore because there are many interesting iconic buildings, such as Art Science Museum, iconic Merlion, and Gardens by the Bay. You can take photos day or night if you have free time. I suggest that you try to take a beautiful sunset before you walk to the Marina Bay hotel via the bridge.

A view of buildings from the bridge

Remember, you have to take a beautiful panorama photo at the night. Many people love to relax, take in the view or enjoy eating and drinking beer at night. My friends and I were crazy to take a lot of photos around the Marina Bay Sands!

I also viewed this beautiful river through a bridge from the Marina Bays hotel!

Oh ya, when we leave the Marina Bays, we must not forget about the famous mermaid-lion status, named Merlion. When we walked to reach Merlion Park, there are many visitors busy crowding around to take photos for memorable keepsakes!

4. MUST Watch Supertree Grove in Gardens by The Bay

Supertree Grove is very awesome! I was surprised to see everything's green around a big garden like Cloud Forest, Supertree Grove, and many more! You MUST go to Supertree Grove. Especially, we enjoyed seeing a light show at the Supertree Grove, where a 25-meter tall tree garden during the night. The views are great, we enjoy lying on the grass to relax and chat-chit and watch the trees glow in many different color lights! You'll feel awesome when you see this beautiful dance of lighting and colors come out from the Supertree Grove.

5. Have Fun Time in Universal Studios Theme Park

Universal Studios Singapore takes you on a journey through Hollywood favorites including Shrek, Madagascar, Jurassic Park, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers, Battlestar Galactica, and many more! Wow, it takes a day for us to explore all of the different theme parks. That is why we are very excited to ride all the different rides in a day! I advise you and your friends to go there during the weekdays - it is the best way to avoid the crowds.

My friends and I book our tickets online from Universal Studios' official website. It is easier for you all to get tickets quickly without long queuing at the counters. Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, Puss In Boots' Giant Journey and Battlestar Galactica are my favorite roller coasters! You must arrive early to get their rides!

6. Food Hunt at the Streets

Take a walk along your journey into the cultural neighborhoods of Chinatown, Kampong Glam, and another street. You can see the delicious street food once you walked to Chinatown at the night!

You better hunt down the hawker stalls since Singapore has its own unique cuisine food, such as fried carrot cake, kaya toast & soft-boiled eggs, chili crab, laksa, and oyster omelette. We are glad to find the hidden hawker stalls in the market building when we are looking for breakfast in the early morning!

7. Walking Trails through the Streets

Experience walking around the Bugis Street Market, Victoria, and Orchard Street. Many shops are packed with cheap souvenirs, clothes, shoes, and accessories. We went to eat lunch at the Sign of Vietnam restaurant, which is managed by the Deaf owners who are very friendly! They told us about a Deaf wife is very good at cooking their favorite Vietnamese food which is why this married couple opened their own business. Curious? Come to the Sign of Vietnam located at 220 Orchard Road, Singapore.

We managed to get a bite of popular Ice cream with rainbow bread because it is MUST not miss while shopping around the Orchard road street.

8. Get to Eat Dessert In Best Cafe

Before you leave Singapore, you MUST TRY for a unique dessert in a cafe! Try going to any cafe which you like to go to! Well, we are cafe-hoppers, who like to look for the best desserts to get the perfect Instagram spot! If you are one of us, yes!
